Meet The Lifesavers: Ester, Huckletree Ancoats

BY Kai Nicol-SchwarzOctober 6, 2020

Heading back to the physical office is exciting… and for many of us, just a little bit scary, too. The endless possibilities when riffing through a brave idea with a teammate face to face can’t be matched on Zoom, but it can also be nerve wracking leaving our bedrooms, living rooms and makeshift home offices behind. We get it.

Over the past few months, we’ve been adapting our spaces to keep you safe and feeling reassured. Take a trip to any one of our Hubs, and you’ll notice one way systems, hand sanitiser units, and useful reminders dotted all over the place. You’ll also notice our crack team of cleaners.

We call them our Lifesavers, because we simply wouldn’t be here without them. They’re at the very heart of our Covid measures, and we thought it was time you got to know them a little better.

Introducing Ester, the sports loving, Afrobeats grooving, biltong connoisseur-ing Lifesaver up in Huckletree Ancoats. She’s a big part of the reason our flagship Manchester workspace has just been certified Covid-19 secure.

Ester’s originally from Namibia, growing up on a farm just outside the city of Gobabis, and moved to the UK 15 years ago.

🏐 ON HOBBIES… “I sleep a lot! But I’m also into netball, and play for a team here in Manchester. I’ve got friends in London that I love seeing on little weekends away (pre-Covid!)”

🎶 ON MUSIC… “It’s gotta be Afrobeats, artists like Davido, P-Square and Rudeboy.”

📽️ ON FILMS… “I’m definitely not a film sort of person, every time I go to the cinema I fall asleep!”

⚽ ON FOOTBALL… “I’ve supported Manchester United since I was very young. David Beckham used to be my favourite player, but there’s some great young kids coming through, and nowadays it’s Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.”

🏉 ON RUGBY… “I’m a big Namibia fan. I watched them play New Zealand in London and Argentina in Leicester in the World Cup a few years ago.”

👩‍🍳 ON COOKING… “Do I cook? Err – yes! A couple of my favourites are Spag Bol and Beef and Pap (which is a type of oatmeal). I love classic African dried meats like biltong and droewors. I used to make them back on the farm in Namibia.”

🌎 ON TRAVEL… “I went to Swaziland with school when I was younger to play football. That was great fun.”

🐈 ON PETS… “I grew up on a small farm, so we had all sorts. Cows, sheep, pigs, goats and chickens. We also had dogs and cats – to keep the rats and snakes away!”

🥤 FAVOURITE DRINK… “I don’t drink alcohol, so pineapple juice.”

☕ TEA OR COFFEE… “Coffee please!”

And that’s Ester, Huckletree Ancoats awesome Lifesaver. Now you know who to talk to if you’re looking to spice up that record collection with a little funky Afrobeats.
