That’s another month finished in a flash, and it looks like the hot summer has left with it too. The heatwave may have subsided but things are definitely continuing to heat up across our communities. Here’s your monthly bulletin of Huckletree members’ big news, new faces and awesome events.
Big things are on the horizon for Together Films, the strategic film impact distribution agency bringing you the films you need to know about. Their recent projects include The Tale, a powerful HBO Original drama starring Laura Dern and Blue Heart, a Patagonia documentary charting the fight to save Europe’s last wild rivers which screened at members-only session at Huckletree West. The team have now announced a major new project working with documentary festival DOC NYC on the marketing of the event later this year. Congrats, Sarah and gang!
Graduates of our in-house accelerator, the Alpha Programme, and Huckletree West members, Fixers have had a very exciting summer indeed. The team, who’ve built the online home for a new movement of creative travel entrepreneurs, have been over in San Francisco after being selected for Y Combinator’s Summer 2018 Batch.
The Open Data Institute’s (co-founded by World Wide Web inventor, Sir Tim Berners-Lee!) OpenActive accelerator programme has been calling Huckletree West home for the past few months, and we’ve been thrilled to have the awesome sport-tech startups with us (and their furry friends: Conker, we’re talking about you…). We were equally as excited, and raring to host their ‘Not So Sporty’ sports day on a slightly rainy August afternoon. From immersive yoga to a treasure hunt with a twist, it was a day of competitive spirit without a single egg and spoon race in sight.
Will Dublin become a RegTech hub following the Brexit decision? Forbes certainly think so, and placed Huckletree D2 members Know Your Customer as a prime example in a recent article. “Ireland is internationally recognised as both a technology hub and a financial centre of Europe,” explains their CEO Claus Christensen “This combination has fostered a good FinTech environment, attracting attention and investment and helping the RegTech space flourish much faster than in other parts of the world.” Check out the full piece here.
It’s been a SaaStock takeover this month not just in Dublin, but our London spaces too as the team gear up for their conference this October. We were thrilled to host their summer party on the Huckletree D2 rooftop last week, giving us a taste of the great things to come. Meanwhile over in London, the UK team have moved into their new home at Huckletree Clerkenwell! Are you headed to the biggest event in SaaS? Get your tickets now – and make sure to head down to our chilled out zone by the main stage.
After four successful cohorts in Huckletree Shoreditch, we’re ready and raring to launch our in-house accelerator, the Alpha Programme, in Dublin this September. The last few weeks has been an exciting build up of finalising the awesome workshop line-up, and welcoming the teams who will be joining us: accurate sizing for online shopping whizzes Syze.ai, eco-friendly shopping assistant Evocco, award-winning eco-credit funds system GreenFi and workflow solution for marketplaces, Trustfy. Watch this space to get to know the teams and the renegade work they’re doing when the cohort kicks off mid-September!
As well as launching the Dublin programme, we’re ready and raring for our fifth cohort to kick off at Huckletree Shoreditch. From foodtech to AR gaming, we’re very excited to be joined by: dietary requirements restaurant directory app Eat Safe, AR gaming app Loveshark.io, social dining app Tamu, personalised natural medication platform Gritwell and digital coach, companion and confidante, Project Kitchen Table. Wishing you were part of the lineup? Get the lowdown on how to apply for our accelerator programme here.
Talking of Alpha grads… Luxury vegan condom brand HANX, members of our pioneering Alpha Programme cohort back in 2017, recently turned one and celebrated in true HANX style. The queens of sextech took over our Huckletree Shoreditch Library to host the latest in their series of award-winning Sex Ed for Adults classes. Intimacy, communication and pleasure were all up for discussion in a no-shame environment, with expert advice from Perlesque Founder, Rea Deacon. Big news: more classes are in the pipeline. Hit them up for the next dates.
